Apple iPhone SE was launched back in 2016 and look no different than the iPhone 5s, but it packed great performance. However, the SE has gone a while without an update, but recent news indicates that Apple is going to release an updated iPhone SE called iPhone SE 2 in the next few months. Here's everything we've heard about the rumored 2018 iPhone SE 2 so far, including its release date, features, specs, and price.
The most reliable rumor we've heard so far about the SE 2 design comes from a video posted on the social network Weibo. The video suggested that the new iPhone SE 2 will have almost the same design with its predecessors but one significant difference is that the new phone may feature a glass back for wireless charging like the iPhone 8. The SE 2 is likely to be available in gold, silver, and Space Grey.
There are also rumors online that we could see a slightly larger screen size that goes up to 4.2 inches from the 4.0 inches display on iPhone SE. The device could end up featuring a bigger battery and crisper resolution, but there might not be a big difference when it comes to the viewing experience.
As many would love to see a dual-camera, but it does not look like it is going to happen on iPhone SE 2. However, we are expecting a 12 Megapixel rear shooter that will get OIS as well as a 7 Megapixel front-facing camera.
There are rumors that the iPhone SE 2 was to be based on the Apple iPhone 7. If that is true, it means the new SE 2 will be moving from the A9 to A10 processor with M10 co-processor. In this case, the phone will have a faster Touch ID sensor, which is missing from the initial iPhone SE.
With previous iPhone SE released at a dedicated event in March 2016, it's likely that Apple will release the iPhone SE 2 at WWDC 2018 in June. Otherwise, the SE 2 launch could have to wait until September when Apple's launch it major iPhone.
The iPhone SE is an excellent choice for people wanting to get the iPhone experience without the hefty price tag, and we'd expect this to continue with the new iPhone SE 2. The price of iPhone SE starts at just £349, so we'd love to see the iPhone SE 2 hit the same price point but a slight increment price likely.
